Job Overview

Logistics Coordinators (LC) works under the direct supervision of the Logistics Manager and are responsible for supporting Northwest Outward Bound School (NWOBS) courses while managing risk appropriately. An LC, along with the LC team and Course Directors, intentionally manage the logistical preparation for the course, build rapport with students, facilitate course functions, and support/maintain logistical systems. We are seeking committed staff to attend April Trainings for the Oregon Program and May Trainings for the WA Program and work courses until late August/early September. Trainings are opportunities for staff to practice and demonstrate skills while trainers coach staff in institutional standards and best practices. Upon successful completion of training, new hires are guaranteed a minimum of 40 days of work.

Training: Able to attend, fully participate, and complete 8+ days of tuition-free student management, interpersonal, and technical training in early May.

Safety: Manage risk appropriately, experienced driving on rough roads with trailers, proficient with manual transmission, and competent in loading and unloading trailers. Role model and promote a culture of safety during work and while staying on basecamp.

Leadership Knowledge and Skill: Work effectively with students 12 – 18+ years of age and with students from marginalized communities. Able to effectively work with staff with different styles and experiences. Able to take initiative and carry out tasks individually and work cooperatively as a team. Provide clear, effective, and timely communication to Students, Instructors, Course Director, Logistics Coordinators, and Administration.

Course Delivery: Work directly with Course Directors to plan and assist course logistical functions. Participate in course planning, including management of gear/food pack out, management of course transports, and coordination and management of logistical course functions.

Educational Knowledge and Skill: Effectively plan and deliver engaging experiential based lessons to achieve desired outcomes. Able to manage large group size and engage students in logistical activities.

Outdoor Knowledge and Skill: Efficiently manage students with gear issue and gear de-issue, able to follow/create organizational systems, able to camp outside for course functions, prepare delicious and healthy meals for 30+ people, and knowledge with gear, maintenance, or repair in one or two course elements including; rafting, climbing, backpacking, sea kayaking, canoeing.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Possess a current Basic First Aid Certification and CPR or willingness to obtain before training.
  • 1+ years of comparable experiences in risk management, educational, and outdoor skills.
  • Must be sufficiently fit to participate in all duties as assigned and maintain ample energy and focus to aid students and staff.
  • Aware of personal biases and the impact that your behavior may have on those around you, or the willingness to uncover and grapple with personal biases.
  • Strong personal motivation, initiative, commitment, and passion for NWOBS mission.
  • Ability to have open, honest, and sometimes difficult conversations, including the ability to give and receive feedback.
  • Able to work with colleagues that may have different styles and experience and able to at times work individually.
  • Ability to carry and load/unload weights up to 50 lbs. On feet most days, sometimes for long hours.
  • Able to sleep on ground, camp outside, and has some experience in 1 of our technical course activities. Knowledgeable with outdoor gear, maintenance, and appropriate use.
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule that may require to work early, late into the day, and camp overnight
