Job Overview

Camp Care Specialists at Camp Woodie play a vital role in ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for our campers. As secondary caregivers, care specialists are responsible for monitoring camper and staff behavior and emotions and providing support and care to ensure a positive experience for all involved.

Minimum Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Currently certified or willing to become certified in First Aid/CPR before the summer (certification will be provided if needed).
  • Successfully complete staff training prior to the start of camp.
  • Observe camper behaviors, assess appropriateness, apply effective management techniques, and enforce safety and emergency procedures.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and integrity; ability to interact effectively with people at all levels.
  • Take initiative, be flexible, use sound judgment, and work harmoniously with others.
  • Exhibit strong communication, organizational, and human relations skills.
  • Willingness to work with diverse populations.
  • Exemplify the values of “Respect Yourself, Respect Others, and Respect Camp Woodie.”

Education and Experience:

  • 15+ years of relevant experience.
  • Must have a degree in a related field or equivalent work/life experience.
  • Must be at least 21 years old.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental weather and program threats, as well as maintaining constant supervision of campers, staff, and volunteers 
  • Physical ability to respond to emergency situations and follow procedures.
  • Endurance including:  prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching
  • Requires daily exposure to the sun, heat, insect and animals
