Job Overview

Position Overview

The Associate Day Camps Program Manager is responsible for providing high-quality, meaningful outdoor education experiences to youth through open enrollment camp programs throughout the year. Specifically, this position will oversee Summer Camp, Break Camp, and After-School programming at the Seattle Program Center. During peak season (June 1 through September 1) this position will spend up to 50% of the time directly in programming, instructing and supporting in the field. The other 50% of time will be spent managing logistics across programs with support of the Camps Program Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Planning & Preparation

  • Design and schedule day camp sessions, including school break camps and summer camps in Seattle and at satellite locations
  • Design and schedule After-School programs in Seattle
  • Facilitate online registration for programs annually
  • Update and maintain outward facing website and internal database for Seattle Camp programs
  • Ensure supplies are ordered as needed
  • Ensure outside vendors and/or transportation vendors are booked as needed
  • Develop and curate age-appropriate curricula for Seattle Camp programs that includes focus on recreation and conservation
  • Ensure all programming is within the policies and guidelines for Mountaineers Youth Programs
  • Work closely with Camps Program Manager to plan and budget for Seattle Camp programs
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise staff and volunteers in program delivery
  • Ensure the hiring and training of summer camp staff, assist in the hiring and training of other part time program staff

Communications

  • Serve as first point of contact for all parent and youth communications
  • Serve as point of contact for summer partner and vendor communications
  • Serve as point of contact for staff communications through the summer season
  • Collect and file all participant paperwork
  • Collect and file all staff and volunteer paperwork
  • Communicate to members, staff, volunteers and parents through website, phone call, and email
  • Ensure all trip and activity data is recorded and accurate in Salesforce

Program Delivery

  • Co-facilitate staff & volunteer training with youth education team
  • Coordinate set-up and take-down each day of programming
  • Oversee and support seasonal camp teams in Seattle
  • Act as the “face of camp” at all times during Break and Summer programs, including
    • Facilitating check-in and check-out
    • Running all-camp activities with Program Coordinators
    • Running daily assembly, meetings and debriefs
    • Providing a leadership presence throughout the camp day
    • Serve as program floater during all summer camp programs
  • Instruct or otherwise support additional programs as needed, including After-School, Clubs, and offsite programs

Requirements

  • Cultural humility and desire to work with people of all races, ages, genders, abilities and economic backgrounds.
  • Experience in outdoor education and/or recreation programs
  • Experience working with youth
  • Ability to pass a national criminal background and sex offender check
  • Ability to drive a 15-passenger van
  • Must have a valid driver’s license; must have (and maintain) an acceptable driving record to drive Mountaineers vehicles
  • Must have reliable personal vehicle transportation for offsite work duties, including ability to transport program supplies and travel to remote trailhead locations; The Mountaineers will reimburse mileage for work use of personal vehicles at the IRS business mileage rate for any work sites other than the “home site”
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and occasional weekends
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, and relationship-building skills  

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience training and supervising other instructors
  • Experience in summer camp programs, specifically in leadership roles
  • Proficiency in basic climbing skills, such as:
    • Ability to safely lead sport climbs at a 5.6/5.7 level
    • Ability to build climbing anchors
    • Ability to rappel
  • Self-motivated with ability to carry out projects independently and work within a team
  • Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, database, email, virtual meeting, and calendaring applications
  • Current First Aid & CPR certification or willingness to obtain

Work Environment

This role is based in Seattle, WA at The Mountaineers Program Center in Magnuson Park. This position will work primarily in-person, with the option to occasionally work remotely, within Mountaineers policies and when their schedule allows.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to life and move 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 occasionally
  • Ability to be outside and active for extended periods of time, in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Ability to bend, squat, run, or climb as part of duties leading youth; ability to hike on uneven and hilly terrain continuously for up to 6 miles.

Benefits

This position is for a full time non-exempt employee, averaging 40 hours per week. Hours vary between weekdays, weekends, daytime and evenings. Starting pay range is $23.50 - $26.00 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance, and paid sick, vacation, and holiday time. 401(k) retirement plan available after three months.
