Job Overview
Four Mile Historic Park is hiring a friendly Operations Coordinator for part-time work at our 12-acre working farm and historic house museum. This role will take special responsibility for the needs of the 4MHP site, including maintenance, repairs, groundskeeping, livestock care, and may act as manager on duty when the Site Manager and other Directors are not on site. The right candidate will be self-motivated, friendly, and able to problem-solve while exercising excellent customer service skills. Because our staff is dedicated to providing a top-quality guest experience, all roles include Visitor Services duties as necessary, which includes responsibility for managing the day-to-day functions of the museum’s guest services including but not limited to museum opening and closing procedures; admissions and general customer support; gift shop sales/restocking, answering and directing phone calls; processing mail; and giving tours of the museum house. Weekend, holiday, and occasional night availability are required to support the 4MHP mission to be accessible to the public during public and private events, and to ensure the safety of resident livestock and the grounds.
This is not a remote position; in-person attendance is required. The position is part-time, hourly, non-exempt. It is estimated this position will work 20-28 hours per week. Overtime must be approved prior to working the additional hours.

Staff members work the following dates for events and special programming to make the Park accessible to the community. Please note, this is not a comprehensive list and dates will be added.

Site Operations Duties:
The primary function of this role will be assisting the Director of Operations with keeping the grounds, museum house, outbuildings, assets, and livestock.
- Executes feeding and wellness routines for resident livestock as outlined by the Director of Operations.
- Responsible for daily Park operations during open hours including the opening/closing of outbuildings.
- Builds knowledge of on-site assets and helps to coordinate and make equipment and furnishings available for rentals and events.
- Actively seeks out and takes on maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping tasks.
- Provides a friendly and knowledgeable point of contact for visitors and event guests by actively engaging and stepping up to surprise and delight with a top-notch guest experience.
- Assigns tasks and supervises volunteers/community service volunteers when they are participating in site-specific tasks.
- Assists the Director of Operations in maintaining safety standards on-site.
- Acts as Manager on Duty when the Director of Operations, CEO, and Director of Programming and Engagement are not on site to handle customer questions and concerns, keep staff on-task, and execute 4MHP policies and basic operating procedures.
Visitor Services:
We are a small, passionate team dedicated to providing an excellent experience for Park visitors. To that end, all employees are occasionally tasked with taking on responsibility for Visitor Services shifts and event coverage.
- Takes responsibility for front desk operations during general admission hours and for special events when necessary.
- Assists in the implementation of special events and programs, including set up, tear down, sales, and customer service.
- Provides excellent customer service and serves as the organization’s first point of contact in person, over the phone, and online.
- Process admission and gift shop sales.
- Ensure the front desk, lobby, and gift shop are tidy and welcoming, providing for good visitor flow and needed visitor information.
- Monitor the status of the facilities and take steps to reduce or eliminate personal risk to visitors.
- Implement appropriate procedures when needed in response to immediate emergencies and enforce ongoing safety policies (ex: Covid-19 safety protocols).
- Light clean-up of public spaces as needed.
- Occasional coverage for educational programs: everyone on-site is prepared with a working knowledge of the museum house to offer tours or tag in to help with small stations for field trips if a volunteer isn’t available.

- Other related duties as required or assigned by the management team.
Requirements:
- 2+ years of relevant work experience (e.g. operations, membership department, museum, agricultural, farm labor, retail, maintenance, non-profit)
- 2 years of customer service experience

- Computer literacy required (PC: Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace, internet, ability to learn internal CRM tools)
- Knowledge of visitor services principles, practices, and procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong follow through with a high level of organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to articulate the mission of Four Mile Historic Park and its programs and services to the public as well as interpret site policy and procedures for the visitor

- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, and members of the public; exercise tact and diplomacy at all times, and demonstrate an understanding of protocol and sensitivity to cultural diversity issues
- Willingness to work a varying schedule; weekend hours will be required, as well as some evenings and holidays.

- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to fifty (50) pounds

- While performing the duties of this position, employees are regularly required to reach with hands and arms, speak for extended periods of time, and to listen
- Work will occur outdoors, but applicants should be able to work in an office setting. While road safety will be taken into consideration, to provide appropriate care for our resident animals, outdoor work will take place regardless of weather conditions

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION
Part-time regular hours 20-28 hours per week with evening and weekend work required. A flexible schedule will be assigned based on the availability of the candidate and needs of the Park. The rate of pay is currently set at $17-$20 an hour. Part-time positions do not include health benefits, vacation, holiday, or sick time.
