We seek an experienced, self-starting Accounting Manager who is eager to join our hard-working, friendly, and dedicated team. The Accounting Manager will uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and integrity in maintaining and reporting on the Catskill Center’s financial accounts. By ensuring our accounting activities are efficient, accurate, and effective for reporting and strategic decision-making, the Accounting Manager supports the entire organization in furthering our mission and achieving our strategic goals.
This full-time position may be performed remotely nearly full-time, and is otherwise based at the Eprf Center in Arkville, NY, the Catskill Center’s headquarters. Catskill Center staff work across the region, so most daily collaboration is remote. Limited travel throughout the Catskills region is required. The Accounting Manager supervises the Bookkeeper/Office Manager and reports to the Deputy Executive Director.
Position Responsibilities General Accounting ● Administer general ledger system (currently with Quickbooks Online), including reconciliation, reporting, and chart of accounts maintenance ● Handle banking administration, reconcile monthly bank statements & monitor cash balances ● Reconcile monthly gift shop sales and accurately allocate income/expenses; ● Develop and maintain cash forecasts ● Oversee AP/AR ● Create project/program budgets & assist with annual budget creation ● Prepare quarterly and yearly financial statements, contract, and program reports● Oversee accounting for payroll and employee benefits, including program and funding allocations and employee benefit contributions and disbursements ● Complete quarterly and year-end close, manage 1099 process and audit prep ● Complete annual filings, including sales tax, property tax reimbursement, etc. ● Liaison with accounting consultants and outside auditors, as needed
Contract/Grant Management ● Actively monitor portfolio of grants and contracts to ensure compliance with award terms, regulatory requirements, and donor intent, as applicable ● Manage restricted fund and contract budgets; ensure accurate expense allocation and reporting ● Ensure recording is accurate and timely and that coding aligns with any associated budgets and grants ● Review and approve payment requests before submitting for authorized signature
Financial Procedures & Controls: ● Ensures activities are recorded accurately and in accordance with GAAP and IRS regulations; ● Maintain accounting processes and procedures narratives;
Perform other responsibilities and tasks as assigned
Qualifications Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and be willing and able to pass a background check. Additional requirements include: ● Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent ● 5+ years of position-related experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector ● Experience with budget development and forecasting ● Prior supervisory experience preferred ● Experience working with nonprofits and/or government agencies is a plus ● Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel and Accounting Software skills (Quickbooks Online a plus) ● Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills ● Strong project management and time management skills ● Ability to work with minimal supervision in a remote work environment ● Strong record of integrity, discretion, and ethical sensibility ● Ability to work cordially and professionally with staff at all levels ● Detail-oriented, efficient, and organized ● Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team ● Patience and a positive attitude
Physical Requirements ● Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for prolonged periods ● Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at a time ● Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for Board/Committee meetings and organizational events
Compensation: Starting salary $60,000 – $70,000, commensurate with experience, and comprehensive benefits package including generous paid leave, retirement, and health plan benefits.
