Job Overview

Outdoor Skills Instructors serve alongside the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, teaching families camping or canoe/kayak paddling skills and educating the public about local ecology and natural resources as part of the I Can Paddle! And I Can Camp! programs.

 

The I Can! programs introduce Minnesota families to a variety of outdoor activities including camping, fishing, paddling, and rock climbing.

 

We provide hands-on job skills training and certifications. This position does not require prior experience in natural resources.

 

Conservation Corps Minnesota & Iowa, a nonprofit organization and AmeriCorps grantee, engages hundreds of youth and young adults each year in in meaningful service, leadership development, and environmental stewardship. Our vision is a world in which everyone has equitable access to nature, is equipped to succeed in career and life, and is empowered to make a difference in conserving natural resources.

Details:

  • Entry level, no prior experience required
  • Term: May – August
  • Located in Saint Paul, Minnesota
  • Typical schedule: Full-time 40 hours per week, Wednesday – Sunday, with hours varying depending on workshop schedules. Overnight travel (3-4 consecutive days) is often required.

Qualifications:

  • US Citizen, national, or permanent resident (per AmeriCorps eligibility guidelines)
  • Ability and desire to work well with others in a team setting, outdoors and in all weather conditions
  • Commitment to upholding Corps values of safety, service, respect, equity and community
  • High school degree, GED, or willingness to work towards obtaining a GED
  • Preferred: Knowledge of basic paddling strokes and techniques; knowledge of basic camping and backpacking skills
