Job Overview

Lead campers in grades 8-12 on adventure trips. Activities include hiking, camping, canoeing, and sea kayaking. Our trips range in length from 2 to 25 days and are conducted throughout the Midwest/Northeastern United States, and Ontario, Canada.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare and lead a specific trip: work on trip itineraries, gear/food pack out, and group facilitation
  • Teach/instruct campers on the essential skills necessary for trip safety and enjoyment
  • Facilitate team building and navigate the stages of group development with participants
  • Support the health, safety, and wellbeing of children assigned to your care

Special Benefits

  • Wages start at $600/week for each week worked at camp plus a $1000 stipend for weeks spent training for a total of $5,200 (seven weeks of camp +three weeks training, June 2 – August 10)
  • All meals and housing provided during training and program
  • WFR, Lifeguard training and certification available as needed in June (Bonuses offered for certifications already held)
  • Pro-Deals available for hired applicants
  • Options to extend the contract on at the beginning or end of the summer season to work with in Outdoor Recreation with community and school programs on site

Minimum Requirements

  • One to two years of college or equivalent experience
  • 18 years old or older, 21 years or older preferred
  • Previous experience in outdoor education, group facilitation or working with youth
  • Ability to live in camp and trail conditions with varied weather
  • Display a strong positive work ethic
  • Demonstrate a passion for youth development
  • CPR and WFR qualifications (courses offered free of charge)
  • All successful candidates are required to complete ten days of wilderness staff training on arrival (June 2, 2024), which includes topics of AYF curriculum, leave no trace ethics, risk management and hard skills related to specific trips i.e. bike maintenance/paddling strokes
  • Facilitation experiences in the outdoor industry a plus, but not required.
