Get back to your roots and learn the philosophy of living close to nature, wilderness survival, and nurture your connection to the earth. We will explore the surrounding forests, swim in mountain streams, as we discover more about the magical world of nature through building natural shelters, making fires without matches, and preparing wild plants for food. We work to train people continuously so that Staff as well as Campers gain self-esteem, work cooperatively and make new friends, as they gain confidence in both living and feeling at home in the natural world. This is a camp where campers AND staff are truly looked after and cared about. It is a place where everyone can try new things and discover more about who they are.
The Expedition Instructors of camp bring dependable experience and skills to the table. They execute safe, enjoyable and memorable backpacking or canoe trips while facilitating personal growth for all participants. Lead Instructors are capable of managing the group, navigating hazards and connecting to participants with smooth and strong leadership. For each expedition, there will be a Lead and an Assistant Instructor. Often the Lead Instructor has more technical experience, and is given more administrative and emergency management responsibilities; while the Assistant Instructor may still be plenty capable, they do not take on as much responsibility. Lead Instructors coach and develop their co-instructors into future lead instructors.
Please note: we do not run Expeditions all summer. Living Earth School will hire folks to be Expedition Leaders for part of the summer, and they will be hired as Day Camp Instructors for most of the summer.
The summer camp season runs June 5th through August 13th, with a week of training and optional week off mid-season. If you need housing, you are invited to stay at one of our Staff Camp locations. Here there are individual tent spaces, shared outdoor covered kitchen, shower, and toilet amenities as well as the comradery of living beside your coworkers. If you have experience working outside, are least 20 years of age, outgoing, fun, positive, responsible, a team player, open communicator, and passionate in connecting kids to nature, please consider joining us!
We look for folks that are outgoing, fun, positive minded, responsible, competent, personal growth oriented, team players, open communicators and ready to dive into the adventure of camp and make the most of it.
