Job Overview

Warning- this is a different kind of “camp job”. Camp Kudzu is an independent nonprofit that serves the Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) Community.   Instead of owning and operating a physical location, Camp Kudzu provides year-round program by partnering with facilities and program sites across Georgia.

Our new hire will serve as the point person for all the programs offered across the calendar year from a couple of weekend retreats to a weeklong day camp to four weeks of resident camp.  The Camp Program Manager will maintain and oversee the unique facets of the operation of Camp Kudzu’s program and works in a creative and collaborative team setting with the overarching goal of helping children and their families living with T1D understand their own potential in a supportive and empowering environment.

Interested applicants need to have supervisory experience in the camping field, have volunteer experience, and have the skills to manage that thing called camp- you know, the ability to put together a family reunion, a school festival, a new product demonstration and a book club meeting all in one several times a year will working college aged (and above) volunteers to celebrate the mission of Camp Kudzu.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Design, deliver, and evaluate programs that meet the needs of the T1D community served and ensure delivery in a safe and quality manner.
    • Remain current with information on the developmental needs of youth.
    • Annually seek and analyze input from youth, families, and staff regarding the quality, safety, and enjoyment of the program and staff.
    • Develop and implement crisis and risk management procedures.
  2. Oversee the financial management and budget goals of the program department.
    • Develop and monitor budget for the camp operations.
    • Participate in supporting fund development efforts within the organization.
  3. Design and implement a marketing plan to increase camper attendance and camp usage.
    • Prepare and analyze enrollment trends.
    • Develop and implement recruitment and retention strategies.
  4. Implement human resource management practices to recruit and retain seasonal volunteer staff
    • Recruit staff based on camper enrollment and program management requirements.
    • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate staff.
  5. Manage relationships with partners through communicating and planning for program events.
  • Secure program dates across the calendar year.
  • Secure MOUs with colleges and universities
  • Facilitate the logistics needed to be located at partner facilities.
  1. Collaborate with Medical Team to ensure that program areas and activities are medically safe and universally inclusive for campers.
  2. Provide leadership of the ACA Accreditation Process
    • Camp Kudzu is an active member of both the American Camp Association (ACA) and DECA (Diabetes Education and Camping Association).

 

Special Benefits

Camp Kudzu’s programs are ACA Accredited.  This position is full time, year-round with benefits- including health insurance, responsible time off, and employee matched 403B.

Minimum Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in related field of study with an emphasis on youth development, outdoor recreation, or program management.

Relevant experience of 5 years or more supervising persons.

Experience in volunteer management
