Job Overview

Position Purpose: Wildlife Expeditions Snowcoach Guides lead educational single day snowcoach tours in Yellowstone National Park for visitors from around the world. As a secondary responsibility, snowcoach guides also lead half day and single day tours in wheeled vehicles in Grand Teton National Park. Snowcoach guides also support operational systems at Wildlife Expeditions through work at our warehouse, in the office, and in the field.

Responsibilities:

70% Guiding

• Lead half day (4 hour), full day (8-14+ hours), & custom wildlife tours in wheeled vehicles throughout Grand Teton National Park and in snowcoaches throughout Yellowstone National Park

• Educate guests about the flora, fauna, geology, cultural history, natural history, and current events of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem during every tour

• Engage all guests in hands-on, experiential, place-based activities during tours by using animal specimens, binoculars, spotting scopes and other teaching tools

• Provide exceptional customer service on every tour

• Practice conservative decision-making and sound judgement in order to maintain safety of self and all guests during every tour

28% Supporting Wildlife Expeditions & other program areas of Teton Science Schools

• Clean and organize the Wildlife Expeditions warehouse and shared resources (i.e. optics, teaching tools)

• Uphold the team’s shared expectation of thoroughly cleaning the exterior and interior of vehicles after every tour

• Code all receipts from purchases made during tours in a timely manner

• Provide luggage support, vehicle shuttle support, meal support, and scouting support for custom tours

• Periodically refuel, de-ice, clean and park snowcoaches at the South Entrance of Yellowstone from approximately 4:00PM9:00PM when not assigned to lead a tour

• Participate in all Wildlife Expeditions training and periodic staff meetings

• Upload photos taken during tours to be used for marketing Wildlife Expeditions & Teton Science Schools

• Distribute business cards and promote Wildlife Expeditions TripAdvisor to guests on every tour

2% One TSS Responsibilities

• Proactively and positively share the TSS mission and program structure with external stakeholders

• Cross market TSS programs when opportunities arise

• Engage and collaborate across TSS program areas when possible

• Further development of practice and implementation of place based education pedagogies

• Embody and exemplify all Teton Science Schools values during programming

• Deliver and solicit feedback to/from yourself, peers, and participants

• Contribute to inclusive work and learning environments through continually developing cultural competency. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in education and in the workplace

• Bachelor's degree preferred

• Previous guiding experience or teaching experience in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem is preferred

• Able to manage risk and make leadership decisions in front country and backcountry settings

• Able to effectively communicate the missions of Teton Science Schools and the National Park Service to guests

• Familiarity with Google Apps and Microsoft Office products

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

• Expected to work early mornings, late evenings, weekends, holidays, multiple long days in a row, and potentially double shifts

• Primarily vehicle-based and snowcoach based guiding in Yellowstone National Park, Grand Teton National Park, and Jackson, Wyoming

• Have normal range of vision/hearing/speech

• Able to drive 15 passenger vans and snowcoach vehicles for up to 14+ hours per day for potentially multiple days in a row

• Stretches of time outdoors in all weather, including extremely cold temperatures and arid conditions

• Able to bend/stoop/reach and lift up to 50 pounds

• Work is primarily independent though you are part of a larger team of guides
