Job Overview
In this role you will
- Co-lead groups of up to 13 campers in age and developmentally appropriate instruction with outdoor activities including rock climbing, Leave No Trace principles, and teambuilding.
- Set top ropes and releasable rappels without supervision; Gear management, inventory, and daily inspection
- Will be asked to co-lead other overnight camp programs from time to time and sub in for groups to support instructor time off (training will be provided!)
- Organize and participate in camp programming, ranging from outdoor sports to camp games and rituals
- Follow and educate campers on safety protocols to ensure the safety and wellbeing of participants
- Serve as a role model and guide campers by exhibiting appropriate behavior, attitudes, and activities
- Provide exceptional customer service to parents and all participants in our programs.
- If you are a trained Driver, transport up to 13 campers to and from program areas with company passenger vans.
Minimum Requirements
Your Background
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of camp for all positions
- Must be at least 20 years of age to be eligible for a Driver position
- +1 years of experience working with kids in a professional or volunteer setting preferred
- Personal and/or professional climbing experience required; will be assessed on the following technical skills: trad climbing, building anchors (both traditional and natural), top rope, a variety of climbing knots, and setting up rappels
- Minimum of Basic First Aid & CPR certification by the start of camp (and we can point you in the right direction to get this done) Some positions at Camp Windy Peak may require a Wilderness First Aid (or WFR/EMT) certification.
Important Details
- Work Schedule: Overnight camps are a 24/7 operation. The leadership team will create a schedule that provides you with time off throughout each session. This will typically include an extended daily break, 24 hours off per session, and the weekend, (Friday evening to Sunday morning), between each session.
- Position Duration: Training begins May 17; overnight camp programs run from June 1 through August 2.
- Compensation: Pay is determined based on position, additional responsibilities, relevant certifications, and staff tenure. Starting hourly are below:
