Work with a team providing logistical, promotional, coordination, development and teaching support for Glacier Peak Institute and WSU Snohomish County Extension educational programs, classes, workshops and events. Manages Outdoor Education Workforce Programs. This is a full time 6-month position with the opportunity to extend depending on funding.
Plan, coordinate and facilitate education opportunities for youth and staff focused on outdoor STEM, recreation, environmental education, workforce development and/or growth mindset.
Workforce coordination and development in restoration, trail building, and/or recreation which may include mountain biking, rafting, hiking, etc
Provide risk management specializing in the outdoors to maintain safety of participants and staff at all times during activities.
Monitor AmeriCorps members’ project delivery to ensure compliance with curriculum, AmeriCorps, and GPI administrative and programmatic checklists.
Understand and assist in compliance of the policies and standard operating procedures of Snohomish County, WSU and partners so that the public and staff receive quality services in a safe environment.
Lead in developing a youth guide program to funnel youth to opportunities.
Review, and assist in evaluating and revising existing programming and policies.
Develop curriculum, identify and assess learning outcomes related to programming
Develop interactive, physical real world situational trainings and lessons.
Gather information, research, maintain time keeping and participant logs, check data, prepare reports, billings, and payments; maintain documentation, and provide administrative assistance on special projects.
Develop and plan volunteer programs related to workforce development, trail building, trash clean up, warehouse, bike fixing, warehouse and rafting gear.
Manage the warehouse organization, developing the gear library and outdoor workforce equipment and tools.
Coach resume writing, applying for government jobs, job searching and cover letters.
Safely drive vehicles for events which includes loading, unloading gear and carrying passengers.
Store and care for equipment and vehicles to ensure they are safe and reliable for current and future programs.
Coordinate with partners and land management entities for programs, permission and fees.
Assist with recruiting, managing, coordinating, and training volunteers and staff members to ensure they have access to the necessary supplies, skills, gear and other logistical requirements for programs.
Attend outreach events, update and manage social media accounts, blogs and other public communications for outreach.
Assist in grant writing and fundraising campaigns related to programs.
Be a positive representative and promoter of GPI and WSU at internal and outreach events.
Support Strategic Development of programs which includes implementing the Strategic Plan.
Will work with team members to bring curriculum and STrEaMs opportunities to summer and workforce programs
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must be 21 years of age or older
2-5 years’ experience working in a related fields of education, outdoor recreation, youth work or economic development.
Capable of lifting at least 35 pounds
Commitment to a positive, fun and team-oriented working environment
Flexibility in work hours as necessary to supervise and participate in programs, meet with volunteers, etc.
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in science, environmental education, or related field is preferred but not required
Willingness to take CPR, first aid and other required certifications.
Drivers license and ability to drive a 4WD vehicle on roads of varying conditions.
