Job Overview

YMCA Camp Potawotami is looking for individuals interested in becoming an Outdoor Education Instructor with a start date of September 3rd (Start date flexible) and an end date of October 28th, 2018.

Outdoor Educators work with students of all ages, families, and adult groups providing a variety of outdoor experiences including canoeing, team building, rock climbing, lake study, survival, archery, Native American life, pioneer life and evening programs including camp fires, night awareness and our Potawotami Trail.

Educators receive a weekly wage, onsite housing, and meals.

PAY RATE DETAILS

Pay: $315 per week plus room and board.

Dates: September – October 2018

Must be available to work evenings and weekends; also must live on site.

PERSONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must be organized, detail-oriented, yet flexible.
  • Must be comfortable communicating with parents and enjoy working with children.
  • Must have a strong knowledge of overnight camping.
  • Previous experience and certification in camp program areas (lifeguarding, high ropes, archery, etc.) are preferred.
  • Able to fulfill all demands in spirit, mind, and body as an outdoor education instructor.
  • Positive, service-oriented attitude serving diverse groups of campers in regard to age, abilities, ethnicity, gender, race, economic status, religion, etc.
  • Team player willing to contribute to the culture, mission, and values of the YMCA

SUMMER CAMP ESSENTIAL TASKS AND DUTIES

Must have experience in education, science, or recreation. Certifications in First Aid, CPR, and lifeguarding is a plus.
Candidates must be friendly, comfortable in the outdoors, and able to teach 1 hour classes to groups of ~15 students.

FULL-SEASON ESSENTIAL TASKS AND DUTIES

Provide staff and campers with needed direction and resources, as well as be a patient, enthusiastic role model
Assist in staff evaluations twice a summer, as well as general observations each week
Participate in camper recruitment events
Maintain program areas, host meals, set-up and breakdown of facilities
Help plan and facilitate all camp activities and events
Manage any other tasks and duties assigned by the Camp Directors
