Job Overview

Crow’s Nest Preserve is made up of 712 acres of protected lands along French Creek. It is part of a network of nature preserves owned and managed by the not-for-profit organization Natural Lands in the greater Philadelphia area. The preserve is both a showcase of responsible management practices for natural areas and a place where the public can connect with the natural world. The Preserve holds a nature-themed day camp each summer for kids in grades 1 through 8. Crow’s Nest Camp strives to build children’s love of the natural world by encouraging unstructured play and exploration in nature. In the summer of 2023, camp will run from June 26th to August 4th.

The Environmental Education Summer Intern will be part of a team of staff members who run the summer camp program. The Intern will be involved in both working directly with children and in the behind-the-scenes aspects of camp, including planning, preparation, and cleanup. This internship will pay $15 per hour.

At a minimum, candidates must meet the following requirements:

Strong affinity for the environment and outdoor activities.

  • Excel at working with children.
  • Highly motivated, responsible, and reliable.
  • First Aid and CPR and lifeguard training is a plus.
  • Must be available to work all scheduled weeks of camp, Mondays through Fridays, except for Independence Day. Additionally, must be available for at least two weeks in advance and one week following camp to help with set-up and clean-up.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Successfully pass a background check.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, bend and squat on uneven terrain.
  • Must be prepared to work outdoors under all conditions, including heat, cold, and with occasional exposure to poison ivy, biting and stinging insects, etc.
