Job Overview

Position Overview

The After School & Summer Camp Coordinator is responsible for the safe and effective execution of educational and recreational programming for Youth Programs at The Mountaineers Seattle Branch. Specifically, this position will oversee After School Programs during the school year, and maintain Coordinator status during the summer–helping to facilitate day and/or overnight camp programming. Additionally, this position will work with the Youth Program Managers to orchestrate internal outdoor gear use and distribution. 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee, organize, and support programmatic elements of after school programs such as group games, climbing instruction, and general curriculum, including:
    • Facilitating check in and check out
    • Running activities daily
    • Providing excellent customer service to after school families
    • Overseeing top rope sites on campus and supporting instructors in climbing facilitation
  • Oversee, organize, and support programmatic elements of camp, including:
    • Facilitating check in and check out
    • Orchestrating daily and weekly activities while providing outdoor instruction and risk management support 
    • Acting as mentor and point of contact for CITs and counselors throughout the summer 
  • Oversee, organize, and run programmatic elements of Mini Mountaineers program 
  • Provide leadership presence as the onsite staff member during program days
  • Create a positive, enthusiastic, supportive, professional environment for staff, volunteers, and youth.
  • Support staff and volunteers in program delivery and curriculum. 
  • Assist Associate Youth Programs Manager in developing after school programs, summer camp programs, staff trainings, activities, and educational curriculum.
  • Ensure The Mountaineers youth policies and procedures are followed and adhered to at all times. 
  • Ensure all supplies are ordered and ready for use during each program.
  • Coordinate the use of Gear Library equipment for internal youth programs with support from Associate Outreach Program Manager

Special Benefits

This position is for a full-time, regular employee. Regular schedule will be 40 hours a week. Hours vary between weekdays, evenings, and occasional weekends. Starting pay range is $17-$19 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance, and paid sick, vacation, and holiday time. 401(k) retirement plan available after three months. Minimum Requirements

Requirements

  • Outdoor experience and passion for outdoor activities preferred.
  • Current CPR & First Aid Certification or willingness to become certified. 
  • Ability to pass a national criminal background and sex offender check.
  • Minimum age 21. 

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience teaching or leading youth in the outdoors.
  •  2+ years of camp, or comparable program, experience.
  • Familiarity with outdoor places in the Pacific Northwest. 
  • Experience with curriculum development and implementation.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to safely lead 5.7 sport climbs preferred. 
  • Wilderness First Responder certification preferred.
