Job Overview

Position Purpose

The Housekeeping Coordinator supervises the day to day functions of our on-site Camp dining hall and laundry facilities. This position supervises two housekeeping utility staff to ensure that the dining hall and dish room are clean and functioning at all times, that guest rooms are clean, and laundry services are clean and efficient. . 

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Schedule, train, and coach two utility staff to ensure Camp spaces are clean and safe for both campers and staff. 
  • Provides support to all areas and departments at Camp 
  • Maintain a clean dining hall, including dish washing, mopping and other cleaning on a daily basis
  • Set up for meals, clean up the dining hall space, and do dishes after each meal 
  • Hold high standards of cleanliness for the dining hall space
  • Supervise teens while working in the dining hall and ensure smooth running of dishwashing service
  • Daily laundry loads
  • Wash and dry soiled laundry and bedding
  • Maintain a clean and organized laundry room
  • Organize camper lost & found clothing 
  • Provide campers with extra clothing or bedding as needed
  • Clean guest rooms and bathrooms
  • Support dishwashing and cleaning in the dining hall
  • General housekeeping tasks 
  • Other duties as specified by direct supervisor

Lodging 

  • Lodging is provided for all staff on site. The Dining Hall Director will not be required to stay in a cabin with youth on a regular basis, but will be assigned bunk-style indoor housing that may be shared with up to 3 other staff members.

Pay

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and BGCSF needs.  At BGCSF,  our decisions are based on other factors and dependant on circumstances for each position.  Depending on the need and requirement of the position,  an individual could be hired at or near the entry level, mid - level or top of the range for their role and compensation.   As such, a reasonable estimate for this temporary summer position from June 10 - August 7, 2024, is $4,400.

Minimum Requirements

Required Skills

  • Experience in maintaining a high level of cleanliness 
  • Willingness to spend some time independently cleaning and organizing
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with coworkers
  • Ability to handle difficult or stressful situations in a professional manner
  • Being a strong role model
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

 

Preferred Skills

  • Experience supervising staff
  • Commercial laundry experience
  • Experience working with youth in an overnight camp setting
  • Experience working with youth from disadvantaged circumstances

 

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift 50lbs.
  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain for at least 3 miles
  • Must be able to stand for 8 hours (with breaks)
  • Must be able to work in temperatures ranging from 30° to 100°

 

Schedule

  • Temporary/Seasonal Summer position.
  • Applicants should be available June 10 - August 7, 2024 to work & live on-site at our Camp location in Northern California (Mendocino County). 
  • Staff members work 40-56 hours/week depending on position with two days off per week. Days off vary per session.
