Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Guide Ancestral Intern:

The Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail Visitor Center provides Trail orientation and interpretation, visitor services, pass issuance, and local community outreach in our downtown Omaha, NE location.

 

Located along Omaha, Nebraska’s Riverfront, the Lewis and Clark Trail Visitor Center provides daily visitor services such as trail orientation, Lewis and Clark interpretation, America the Beautiful pass sales, Junior Ranger program administration, and local community outreach.

 

The intern will be focused on developing programming and demonstrations of indigenous perspectives surrounding the Lewis and Clark Expedition, as well as the Expedition’s legacy, to tell a more complete story of the Expedition’s role in shaping America. The intern will be focused on creating in-person and virtual interpretive programs that highlight indigenous perspectives of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, their legacy, and impacts on tribal life. The intern will also assist in answering questions in the visitor center and assisting visitors at the information desk.

 

Stewards Individual Placements (SIP) provides individuals with service and career opportunities to strengthen communities and preserve our natural resources. Participants work with federal agencies, tribal governments, and nonprofits building institutional capacity, developing community relationships, and supporting ecosystem health. SIP, in partnership with Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail provide a variety of formal and informal interpretive services for visitors. These services encompass a range of responsibilities including general visitor center customer service (in-person, over-the-phone, and by email), providing formal talks, and developing interpretive media.

 

 

 

Duties Include:

  • Conducting primary and secondary source research.
  • Developing and giving formal talks to small and large groups.
  • Developing content for print and web media.
  • Engaging visitors, answering questions, and providing general orientation.

To be between the ages of 18-30, or a Veteran up to the age of 34​

*Preference and recruitment focus on those with firsthand experience to indigenous traditions
