Job Overview

The Camp Woodie Rifle Expert provides direct supervision of shooters and instructors at all range areas, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures. The Rifle Expert is responsible for enforcing strict firearms safety precautions, maintaining a secure and compliant shooting environment. They oversee daily operations at the ranges, conduct safety briefings, and ensure that all activities are conducted in accordance with safety standards and best practices.

Minimum Requirements

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Currently certified or willing to become certified in First Aid/CPR before the summer (will be provided if needed)
  • Knowledge of firearms and shooting equipment
  • Ability to teach the fundamentals of shooting
  • Ability to observe camper behaviors, assess its appropriateness and apply appropriate management techniques, as well as enforce appropriate safety and emergency procedures to the situation
  • Proven ability to deal effectively with people at all levels of responsibility; strong interpersonal skills; possess high degree of integrity
  • Ability to take initiative, be flexible, use sound judgment, and work harmoniously with others
  • Proven skills in communication, organization, and human relations
  • Willingness to work with diverse populations
  • Exemplify the values of  “Respect yourself, Respect others, and Respect Camp Woodie”

Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • 5+ years of relevant rifle experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent or higher education experience
  • Shooting experience in one or more disciplines: Trap, Skeet, Sporting Clays, Wing-Shooting and rifles
  • CSM Level 100, 200, or TRACS Certification (will be provided if needed)
  • National Rifle Association (N.R.A) Marksmanship Instructor 
  • N.R.A Range Safety Officer
  • NSCA Shooting Coach

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Lead and participate in recreational activities which may include running, throwing, kicking & shooting
  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental weather and program threats, as well as maintaining constant supervision of campers, staff, and volunteers 
  • Ability to lift and/or maneuver weights of up to 35lbs
  • Physical ability to respond to emergency situations and follow procedures.
  • Endurance including:  prolonged standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching
  • Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities
  • Requires daily exposure to the sun, heat, insect and animals
