Compensation: $49,858 to $58,656  (depending on experience); generous benefits include fully paid health & dental insurance with Health Saving Account contributions, a matching Simple IRA retirement plan, 20 days of personal leave per year, 12 days of sick leave per year, 15 paid holidays, and flexibility in work schedules including a four-day work week.   

Classification: Full Time, Permanent 

Work Location: Montana -Person hired can live anywhere in Montana.

Summary of Position:

The Social Media Manager will oversee all social media and ambassador efforts and assist with developing broader communication plans for programmatic efforts. This role primarily creates, coordinates, and executes engaging social media content that drives awareness and supports our campaigns and initiatives. Additionally, the position will focus on executing developed content with influencers and community partners. 

 

The Social Media Manager will ensure social media channels and other communication platforms consistently convey a clear, compelling, and unified message across multiple outlets, fostering greater visibility and engagement with our work.

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Social Media Management:

Oversee content creation, scheduling, and analytics for all social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter/X, LinkedIn, etc.). Ensure content aligns with the mission and communication goals, working closely with teams to gather stories and visuals.

 

Content Creation:

Write, edit, and curate engaging content for social media. Manage the editorial calendar for social media, ensuring timely delivery of consistent messaging. Collaborate with the communications team to maintain cohesive messaging across platforms.

 

Ambassador and Community Engagement:

Build and maintain relationships with influencers, partners, and ambassadors who share our values. Develop and implement strategies to partner with these groups to implement our communication plan and grow our audience.

 

Support for Broader Communication Plans:

Collaborate with staff on multi-channel communication strategies, including but not limited to crafting content for email campaigns, press releases, op-eds, and print newsletters.

 

Manage Community storytelling:

Writing, editing, and gathering content, identifying and maintaining a stable of contributors, and creating an editorial calendar, all in support of defining and highlighting our community;  elevating the voices of our members, supporters, and partners; and showing how a diversity of people relate to public lands.

 

Cross-Departmental Support:

Work with teams to ensure their campaigns and projects are supported through appropriate social media and communications content. Contribute to promotional efforts, storytelling, and community engagement.

 

Brand Consistency:

Ensure all social media content aligns with branding and audience guidelines. Maintain high editorial quality and consistency across platforms.

 

Analytics and Reporting:

Track, analyze, and report on social media performance. Use insights to refine content and improve engagement, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

 

Media and Public Relations Support:

Assist in media outreach and public relations, including writing press releases and coordinating interviews when needed.

 

Conduct other communication tasks as needed.

 

Qualifications

 

  • 2+ years of experience managing social media channels and creating engaging content
  • 2+ years of experience in drafting social media strategies with a growth mindset
  • Proficiency in social media analytics tools with a proven ability to track performance metrics, analyze data, and adapt strategies as needed
  • Familiarity with and interest in SEO, SEM, META Ads, and Google Ads
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with video production, graphic design, or photography is desirable, but not mandatory
  • Experience integrating social media within broader communication strategies
  • Up-to-date knowledge of social media trends, algorithms, and best practices with a willingness to adapt to evolving platforms
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including marketing, design, and communications
  • Experience managing influencer and community relationships
  • Ability and desire to be innovative and creative
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Asana)
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice

Minimum Requirements

Requirements

  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly (approximately 10-20%), as well as the willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Valid United States-issued driver's license and insurability.
