Lakes Region Conservation Corps – New Hampshire

The Lakes Regions Conservation Corps (LRCC) is a 22.5 week AmeriCorps service program that develops skills and experiences for conservation professionals at the beginning of their career. LRCC members are the driving force behind many of the conservation efforts of New Hampshire's Lakes Region.  The LRCC summer/fall program features 5 unique host sites, each offering different experiences, certifications, and opportunities to members.

Job Overview

Key responsibilities may include:
-Work toward the eradication of invasive species in the lakes and watershed.
-Maintain and construct regional trail networks.
-Engage both youth and adults in environmental education and outreach programs.
-Recruit and lead volunteer crews.
*Each host site operates independently and may not participate in all of the above, and may have additional responsibilities not listed.

Camp Hale (2 positions available)
Sandwich, NH
Members have the benefit of living and working on Squam Lake within a camp environment, while not actually working as a camp counselor. Members receive free meals during camp sessions and are included in the camp community, making it easy to form engaging relationships with peers from around the world.

Green Mountain Conservation Group (2 positions available)
Effingham, NH
Members will participate in water quality research and education throughout the Ossipee Watershed, with a focus on microplastic pollution. Members will be expected to follow technical data collection protocols, engage with volunteers and community members, and provide educational opportunities and content to individuals of all ages. Housing is provided on site.

Newfound Lake Region Association (2 positions available)
Bristol, NH
Members of NLRA spend extensive time leading teams in the field in the Newfound Lake Region and engaging in the community. Members receive additional training on storm water and erosion management with the goal of building climate change resiliency in the region.

Squam Lakes Association (6 positions available)
Holderness, NH
Members serve within a team, scuba diving to remove variable milfoil from Squam Lake, spending weekends camping on our islands as island caretakers, and working on over 55 miles of trails within the Squam Range. Members both receive and actively apply their SSI scuba certification and PADI weed control diver certification, as well as spend ample time on the lake during service. Housing is provided.

Squam Lakes Conservation Society (2 position available)
Holderness, NH
Members receive conservation easement trainings in order to independently assess a variety of properties in the lakes region. Members also have the opportunity to develop and apply ArcGIS skills within the organization.

Commitment:
May 20, 2021 through October 24, 2021. This is a 22.5 week AmeriCorps program. Members must complete at least 900 hours over the course of the program in order to receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award.

All members have the opportunity to receive these trainings, certifications, and benefits:

-Wilderness First Aid & CPR certifications
-Living allowance, $211 weekly distributed bi-weekly (pre-tax)
-NH Safe Boater Course
-NH Commercial Boating License
-Housing provided, or $250 bi-weekly housing allowance depending on host site
-Student loan forbearance for qualifying loans
-AmeriCorps Education Award of $3,097.50 received upon successful completion of a minimum of 900 hours

* The provision of these trainings are contingent upon the operation of the organizations hosting them, which may be impacted due to COVID-19.

Minimum Requirements

Minimum Qualifications as per AmeriCorps CNCS Guidelines:
-Must be 18 years of age by May 20, 2021
-Must be covered by health insurance for the duration of program
-Must be a US citizen, US national, or legal permanent resident
-Must clear all required national service criminal history checks
-Must be a high school graduate, GED recipient, or be working towards obtaining one during term of service

Preferred Qualifications dependent upon host site:
-College Graduate of a 4 year college or University
-Competent swimmer
-Able to lift 50 pounds
-Able to carry and use heavy tools while hiking
-Able to hike at least 8 miles in a day
-Able to work independently and with a group
