Fire Recovery Crew Leader

The Larimer County Conservation Corps (LCCC) promotes individual development through service for the benefit of our environment and community. Our programs empower corps members to develop personal and professional skills, gain environmental awareness and actively engage in the community, while developing self-sufficiency to help them become productive members of our community. The LCCC is an accredited corps through the Colorado Youth Corps Association and The Corps Network and is based in Fort Collins, Colorado. Crew Leaders work side-by-side with corps members and assistant crew leaders to complete work projects in a variety of weather conditions and terrain, including high altitudes.

Job Overview

The Fire Recovery Crew Leader is a seasonal, supervisory position managing a crew of young adults who perform various conservation projects. Projects typically focus on ecological restoration, invasive species removal, fence construction, erosion control, post fire debris clean-up, and other conservation projects.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a crew daily and overnight campouts as needed.
  • Implements Larimer County Conservation Corps policies and procedures.
  • Motivates and encourages corps members to work and persevere in difficult and physically challenging work settings.
  • Promotes leadership while encouraging the development of teamwork, self-worth, conflict resolution, effective communication, goal setting, decision making, and the building of community.
  • Manages and monitors physical and emotional safety of the crew.
  • Safely drives a 12 passenger van and trailer.
  • Assists training corps members in areas including, but not limited to, proper tool use and Leave No Trace principles.
  • Maintains a safe working environment and enforces the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Completes time sheets, evaluations, and incident reports, among other paperwork requirements.
  • Facilitates teambuilding activities, environmental education, and job/life skills curriculum on a regular basis, or as projects determine appropriate.

Minimum Requirements

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have a basic knowledge of conservation techniques, construction, landscaping, and tool maintenance.
  • Work well under stressful situations.
  • Be proficient troubleshooting.
  • Have conflict management skills.
  • Motivate and encourage youth to work and persevere in difficult and physically challenging work settings.
  • Have a background working in a team environment and providing supervision to a diverse group.

 

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

  • Possession of High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid driver's license required. Will be required to provide DMV report upon offer of employment.
  • Experience with conservation techniques, construction, landscaping, agriculture and/or tool maintenance required.
  • One (1) year of experience in the outdoor education field required.
