Job Overview

Coastal Education Internship (1 internship available)

Primary Responsibilities will include:

– Leading hands-on outdoor education programs involving seining, kayaking, and other outdoor activities.

– Leading outdoor nature walks and trips for the public.

– Assisting in community science projects involving marine life identification.

– Researching, writing, and designing public education materials on coastal/marine topics for various audiences.

– Representing the Society at outreach events.

Qualifications: College students with environmental science, marine science, ecology, education or similar background may apply. Informal and/or formal education teaching experience preferred, and a qualified individual must enjoy sharing their enthusiasm for the littoral zone with people from all age groups and walks of life. A basic knowledge of coastal ecosystems and the ability to identify local flora and fauna is necessary for this position. The internship will require the use of personal vehicle and laptop.

This internship opportunity is part time and hours are flexible with some evening and weekends required. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a well-established organization that promotes coastal conservation through education, restoration, and advocacy. The Littoral Society offers a stipend based upon experience and education and seeks someone who can begin work in mid May 2022.

Marine Fish Tagging Program Internship (1 internship available)

Primary responsibilities will include: 
– Assist the Tagging Program Director in managing the world’s largest recreational angler fish tagging program.
-Enter data for each program tag and recapture event.
– Create and distribute recapture letters and rewards.
– Distribute tag kits and instructional materials to new and existing Society taggers.
– Represent the Tagging Program at outreach and tabling events.
– Accompany the Tagging Program Director on outreach/tagging events, which may include boat trips at sea.

Qualifications: We are seeking an energetic, dedicated, and detail-oriented individual. Current undergraduate college students with ecology, marine science, environmental science or similar background may apply. A working knowledge of the life history and ecology of local marine fish species is desirable, but not necessary. Internship will require the use of personal vehicle and laptop.

This internship opportunity is a paid, part-time, two-day-a-week role with flexible hours and some evening and weekends required. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a well-established organization that promotes coastal conservation through education and advocacy.

The Littoral Society offers compensation based upon experience and education and seeks someone who can begin work in mid – late May 2022. The society will work with you to make the internship eligible for college credits from your educational institution.
