About South Carolina Waterfowl Association

The South Carolina Waterfowl Association (SCWA), founded in 1986, is a statewide leader in conservation and education. In 1987, SCWA launched its wood duck nest box program, producing more than one million wood ducks and restoring thousands of acres of habitat. At the heart of the organization is the Wildlife Education Center (WEC), a 1,600-acre property with diverse ecosystems, cabins, team-building courses, zip lines, and a waterfowl aviary. The WEC supports three flagship programs: Camp Leopold, Camp Woodie, and Heritage Events.

Camp Woodie, launched in 1995, is a premier summer conservation camp, serving over 1,500 youth annually. Camp Leopold, established in 2012, delivers standards-based, experiential environmental education to more than 6,000 K–12 students each year. SCWA’s habitat work also includes a mallard restoration program that has enhanced thousands of acres of wintering grounds.
