To provide experiential education, academic instruction, interpersonal life skills development and outdoor adventure-based programming to youth, young adults, and families dealing with Learning and attention challenges through SOAR’s outdoor adventure camp programs, Academy at SOAR, GAP year program, and community-based services.
SOAR embraces a commitment to service that is evident in the professional and community involvement of its staff members.
With the goal of success in mind, our programs provide challenges that build self-esteem, self-confidence and self-reliance. Each participant is challenged in a variety of adventure activities (backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, among others), and pushed beyond their comfort zone with support and encouragement. These experiences empower the participant to make healthy choices, learn more about themselves, overcome challenges, and relate lessons learned from these experiences to other aspects of their lives.
Our students deal with the reality, challenges, and unique nature of their neurodiversity at home and in school, so when they come to SOAR, we focus on their strengths and abilities and help them develop a wide range of life skills. Our staff help students develop personal goals that address the common challenges of disorganization, poor social skills, or impulsive behavior. At the end of each course, staff will write an evaluation on each student that highlights their areas of strength and details their progress toward these goals.
