About Sierra Institute for Community and Environment

Sierra Institute for Community and Environment (Sierra Institute) is excited to announce that we are hiring four crew leaders and one Assistant Field Coordinator for our youth corps program, Plumas Conservation Restoration and Education in Watersheds (P-CREW)!

Sierra Institute is a non-profit nestled in the unique rural landscapes of Northern California. Our mission is to promote healthy and sustainable forests and watersheds by investing in the well-being of rural communities and strengthening their participation in natural resource decision-making and programs. P-CREW is a five week youth corps program that provides paid summer employment to high school students from rural and urban areas across Northern California to work on meaningful conservation and restoration projects in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This intense experience is uniquely capable of providing a vibrant and diverse community that fosters positive growth and friendship while developing a connection with the land.

Crew leaders are integral  to the success of P-CREW and beyond their supervisory duties, provide mentorship and emotional support to their crew members. Thus, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to youth development and stewardship. A paid three-week training will be provided to crew leaders to develop their leadership and restoration project skills prior to the start of P-CREW.

The Assistant Youth Coordinator works closely with both field and office staff and provides critical support to the program by assisting with coordination, logistics, and administration of three summer youth crews. We are seeking candidates with strong communication and organizational skills, flexibility and experience in conservation corps or youth development. This position is ideal for an individual wanting to learn more about operating a successful youth corps program.

Why Work here

The Sierra Institute for Community and Environment (Sierra Institute) is committed to uplifting the community through devoted staff, meaningful work, and positive growth. All staff training is paid. Sierra Institute has been expanding its workforce and there are constantly new opportunities for those who wish to grow and develop as leaders in natural resource stewardship!
