Purpose:
Friends of Deckers Creek is an AmeriCorps Program designed to build long-term community capacity around the protection, restoration, and sustainable use of Deckers Creek, serving residents, visitors, and partner organizations in the Morgantown, West Virginia region through collaboration, stewardship, and environmental justice. Guided by values of partnership, science-based decision-making, and community engagement, the program works to strengthen a broad network of academic, governmental, and nonprofit stakeholders committed to clean water and accessible outdoor recreation.
As an AmeriCorps Position, the member will support organizational capacity by coordinating projects, managing communications, and engaging partners across FODC’s network, ensuring that restoration, outreach, and planning efforts are effectively aligned with the organization’s mission and long-term goals.
The AmeriCorps VISTA member will build capacity and develop sustainable solutions to alleviate poverty in underserved communities.
Description of Duties:
The selected VISTA will focus on developing strategic plans for community outreach and programmatic goals. This will include building framework for a community garden and developing toolkits for community engagement and volunteer training. The VISTA will also develop training materials based on FODC’s scientific sampling methodology and equipment protocols.

Evaluation and Reporting:
As an AmeriCorps VISTA member, performance will be evaluated on whether the member has completed their required year of service; the member has satisfactorily completed assignments; and if the member has met other performance criteria that were clearly communicated at the beginning of the term of service.
Reporting requirements include, but are not limited to, bi-weekly timesheets, accomplishment tracking, and quarterly reporting.
