Since 1981, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association has championed recreation in the Tahoe Basin. Today, the TRTA maintains and enhances a world-class 200-mile trail system with over half a million annual users. The organization implements a variety of programming to teach users sustainable trail use practices, connect the public with the outdoors to create lifelong stewards, and mitigate the impacts of trail users on the trail and landscape so everyone can enjoy the Tahoe Rim Trail today and in the future.
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Executive Director
Location: TRTA Office, Stateline, NV
Job Classification: Full-time, Exempt
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
The Guided Programs Manager is primarily responsible for managing and implementing adult-guided and family programs. Under the supervision of the Executive Director, they will design, plan, schedule, deliver, and evaluate guided programs and backcountry courses for the general public. Duties include creating and managing registrations, supporting and organizing upward of 50 volunteer Trail Guides, maintaining existing and building new partners, and supporting program marketing, recruitment, and reporting.
ADULT AND FAMILY PROGRAM MANAGEMENT
· Plan and implement multi-day hikes overnight guided backpack trips for adults.
· Manage participant communication, registration forms, and screening.
· Coordinate volunteer-led guided, interpretive day hikes.
· Coordinate backcountry skills courses, including Snow Camping and Backpacking 101, Leave No Trace training, etc.
· Manage program gear and logistics, including transportation and meals.
· Work with educational program partners and build new partnerships.
· Inventory and manage program assets.
· Support and manage volunteers and volunteer training.
· Update guided program-specific and course information on the TRTA website.
· Support TRTA risk management field practices and program protocols.
· Provide feedback and support for risk assessments and evaluation.
· Responsible for working with the marketing team to promote Trail Use programs.
FUNDRAISING AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT
· Create and track the Trail Use budget, including grant funding.
· Assist Development staff in writing, managing, and reporting on grants and thanking donors.
GENERAL PROGRAM SUPPORT
· Coordinate with and support Youth and Ambassador Programs as opportunities allow.
OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED
Personnel may be required to perform duties outside of their typical responsibilities occasionally.
QUALIFICATIONS
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Outdoor Education, Recreation Management, Nonprofit Management, or a related discipline or equivalent work history. Qualified candidates will be passionate about connecting people with nature and outdoor ethics and committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS FOR IDEAL CANDIDATES
· History of success in working with nonprofit organizations.
· Recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
· Outstanding public speaking and interpretation ability.
· Excellent writing and editing skills.
· Experience with principles, practices, and techniques for developing and implementing comprehensive guided trips, outdoor recreation, and environmental education.
· Ability to hike and camp for up to several days at a time up to 10,000′ carrying up to 55 lbs.
· Spanish language proficiency.
· Wilderness First Aid or higher certification.
· Leave No Trace trainer certification.
· Experience working with diverse ages and populations.
· Success in the execution of multiple tasks while responding to various priorities.
· Ability to work in an office setting for most work hours and duties.
· Strong verbal communication and public speaking skills.
· Tech savvy with computer/Microsoft Office Suite proficiency.
· Ability to pass a nationwide background investigation, including fingerprinting.
· Meet driving eligibility standards set by the TRTA’s insurance carrier and submit an up-to-date DMV report.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
· Ability to drive a 15-passenger van while towing an eight-foot utility trailer.
· Ability to work at a desk with a computer and phone for up to ten hours daily.
· Ability to hike and camp, traveling up to 20 miles at a given time for several days at various elevations while carrying and lifting up to 55 lbs.
· Must be able to work in various types of weather conditions.
· Ability to be physically active for long periods without getting tired or out of breath.
· Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Salary will be commensurate with experience ranging from $50k-$65K annually.
