Nature Camp and Family Programs Coordinator

The Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) seeks passionate, conservation-minded individuals who desire to work with children in the outdoors to join our team.  The purpose of the Nature Camp and Family Programs Coordinator is to help children and families thrive in VINS' various educational programs.

Job Overview

The Nature Camp and Family Programs Coordinator is responsible for supporting all activities of VINS Nature Camp and developing, coordinating, and leading family program offerings.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the administration, management, and supervision of VINS Nature Camp including: registering participants, supporting daily camp operations, providing behavior management, and maintaining and creating program materials
  • Oversee the Leaders in Training (L-I-T) volunteer program throughout the year: fielding applicants, scheduling participants, and supervising the L-I-T curriculum
  • Manage all aspects of family programs including scheduling and marketing of events, registering and communicating with participants, and working in conjunction with Educators to develop and teach lessons
  • Assist with scheduling, marketing, registration, and communication for adult programs
  • Collaborate with Education Department staff to expand offerings for families and adults

 Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Previous work experience with summer camps or in other educational settings required
  • Experience working with and managing teens
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and customer service skills
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to carry bulky, heavy teaching equipment (up to 40 lbs.)
  • Ability to lead educational activities over diverse terrain and in all weather conditions
  • Current driver’s license and safe driving record
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification, or willing to obtain
  • General computer literacy

Compensation and Work Schedule:

  • Full-time position with benefits
  • Compensation: $18 – $20 per hour, dependent on experience
  • The regular work week is 40 hours; some evening and weekend work required
