We are looking for enthusiastic people with experience working with youth. Crew Leaders supervise youth trail crews, ages 16-19, on Anchorage park and trail improvement projects. YEP is a 10 week summer work program for Anchorage teens that complete park and trail improvement projects throughout the Municipality. DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
LOCATION: Russian Jack Springs Parks, 1600 Lidia Selkregg Lane
These are seasonal, full-time positions with an anticipated start date of May 28, 2024 and ending on August 1, 2024.
Will lead a youth crew in trail building and parks improvement projects throughout Anchorage. Deliver instruction to motivate and garner cooperation from project participants and staff. Implement constructive guidance to youth crew members and assistant crew members. Work with groups and individuals to coordinate and ensure project completion/events facilitation. Care for and ensure safe use of tools and equipment among youth crew members and assistant youth crew leaders. Transport program participants to various sites using 15-passenger vans. Administer first aid and CPR. Communicate knowledge gained through contact with community resources and partners to reinforce environmental knowledge during park projects and recreation programs. Deliver developed environmental education curriculum and lead planned environmental education activities with Crew under the guidance of the Education Coordinator. Perform other related duties as assigned.
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and one (1) year of experience working with teens or youth. Prior experience in the use of recreational equipment is required.
