REPORTS TO: Education Manager

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time, Non-Exempt

PAY RATE:  $16/hr; mileage reimbursement ($0.58 or current CA reimbursement rate)

The Elementary School Education Specialist shall be responsible for supporting ILACSD’s Education Department to implement its elementary school programs, contracts, grants, and events. Duties will include marketing and scheduling elementary school classroom and assembly style presentations, and administrative duties. Duties will include presenting to schools and community organizations, as well as attending events throughout San Diego County.


  • Coordinate and implement contract and grant programs within ILACSD’s Education department
  • Develop, research, schedule, and market over 350 presentations annually
  • Track and report delivered and scheduled presentations toward achievement of goals and objectives
  • Manage the maintenance and care of department supplies, inventory, purchasing, and proper and timely storage
  • Prepare materials for upcoming presentations
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with schools, community groups/organizations, civic organizations, clubs, and governmental agencies
  • Deliver K-12 presentations throughout SD County approximately 2 days per week
  • Respond to all presentation requests within a timely manner
  • Lead curriculum development under direction of the Education Manager
  • Assist with the Education Department events (Kids’ Ocean Day, Zero Waste Workshops and others as needed)
  • Assist with scheduling & coordinating Part-Time Educators as needed
  • Attendance at various community events


  • Attend community meetings when appropriate to further expand organization’s presence in the community
  • Additional organizational and community support as necessary
  • Other duties to support the ILACSD team


  • College degree; environmental and/or education background/experience
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to educate, inspire, and empower groups of all sizes, ages, and demographics
  • Commitment to working in a team environment
  • Effective communication skills for diverse audiences, including strong writing skills
  • Experience working with elementary aged children; teaching experience
  • Curriculum development experience (preferred)
  • Reliable transportation; ability and willingness to travel
  • Knowledge of stormwater pollution prevention, waste diversion, and zero waste lifestyles
  • Flexible start and end times, dependent on scheduled presentations
  • Ability to work occasional weekends
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (especially PowerPoint)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred
