Job Overview
The Unit Counselors are the primary caregivers for each camper. Assist the Unit Leaders in planning and coordinating the campers time based on the Camp Program Book. Responsible for teaching and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills (personal hygiene, interpersonal skills, etc). Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their living unit, within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes. Group leadership, youth development experience and program development skills gained through hands on learning. Knowledge of Girl Scout program desired. Promote high standards in all aspects of the camp program. Serve as a role model to campers and staff by your actions, appearance, manners, language, and general conduct. Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.
All positions include room and board and staff must live onsite for the duration of their employment. We have two resident camps that run consecutively (one in June, one in July) and a day camp property in Albuquerque that will run June – July. We are a gender specific camp accepting girls and non binary children in grades Kinder – 12th grade (primary age groups 3rd – 6th). Staff training is the end of May through the beginning of June on site at our Angel Fire, NM property.
Work dates are end of May through the beginning of August. Work locations are Rancho del Chaparral Summer Camp (45 minutes outside Cuba, NM) and Camp Elliott Barker Summer Camp (Angel Fire, NM).
