Job Overview

Exit Glacier Guides is looking to hire several new team members for our upcoming 2019  summer season.

We are a small, locally owned glacier hiking and ice climbing company located in beautiful Seward, Alaska.  Our areas of exploration are the glaciers of the Harding Icefield, Kenai Fjords National Park, and other glaciers and mountains in the coastal range.  We operate both day and multi-day trips with access via hiking, skiing and helicopter. All of our trips are small group sizes and focus on facilitating an amazing experience for our clients that is both safe and adventurous.

For 15 years Exit Glacier Guides has provided clients with the best guides, the best gear, and the best glacier experience of any provider in Alaska.  Our main objective is to make our clients feel they have chosen the best guides to explore the coastal mountains and glaciers of Alaska. To do that we only hire guides who exemplify that professional and humbled persona of giving themselves to their clients, to be the facilitators of an amazing experience.

This coming season we are looking for both assistant guides and lead guides, both of whom have some prior climbing background.  Assistant guides are those who have some climbing and/or mountaineering background, have completed a course in such, and want to further their knowledge of guiding and safely moving in the mountains.  Lead guides would have prior guiding experience, experience on glaciers, and have a documented climbing resume. Our small staff of guides is broken into a tiered structure where information can pass down from senior guides, to lead guides and then assistant guides.  This allows a growing atmosphere where assistant guides can aspire to more responsibility and learn both the hard and soft skills of guiding in glaciated environments.

We hire the best, offer the best training, and provide the best compensation.  Training starts around the 3rd week of May and lasts two weeks before clients arrive.  All new guides will shadow several trips under lead and senior guides until they become comfortable in their roles as assistant guides.  Lead guide candidates then prove their proficiency to obtain their lead status. The season runs until September 9th with clients, a couple days of clean up and winterizing, then an adventurous group guide trip that you won’t know the destination of until the day of.  We offer a very competitive wage which is based on per trip pay as well as per hour wages for certain duties.

Apply by emailing a work resume, outdoor resume, and/or climbing resume and cover letter to:

We will be taking resumes through December, but encourage applicants to get their resumes in as early as possible before spots are filled.
