Job Overview

The Nooksack River Steward Program provides salmon focused environmental education,
restoration, and stewardship opportunities to recreational users of the Nooksack River from
June-September in partnership with local organizations, agencies, and municipalities.

As part of the Future Leaders of Whatcom Waters (FLOW) Program the Nooksack River
Steward Internship provides real-world experiences and professional development
opportunities for the future leaders of the environmental and educational field.

This is a seasonal, part-time position, averaging about 16 hours per week at $14.49 per hour
from June 11-September 10, 2022.

Responsibilities include:

Facilitate Nooksack River Steward Programming
• Educate and engage recreators on salmon ecology, human impacts to habitat, and
local restoration and recovery efforts
• Engage community audiences in salmon- and locally-themed stories and activities
• Lead, educate, and engage volunteers in environmental restoration efforts
• Develop creative multimedia outreach materials
• Work collaboratively with fellow interns to plan and organize for upcoming needs
• Other duties as assigned


Minimum Requirements

• 18 years or older
• High school diploma or GED
• Dependable with strong passion for NSEA’s mission, environmental education,
stewardship, and outreach
• Able to work independently and on a team
• Willingness to work in mostly outdoor and some office settings throughout term
• Available Saturdays and Sundays throughout term
• Available on June 11 and 12 and September 10
