Marine Megafauna Foundation
The Marine Megafauna Association (MMF) is working closely with local communities within the Inhambane Province to inspire guardianship of Mozambique’s unique ocean, coastline and marine wildlife through research, education and conservation.
AMM is embarking on an exciting stage of growth and we are looking for a truly driven, passionate and experienced Project Manager to drive forward our flagship conservation project. S/he will work mobilise communities to create marine resource management plans, establish community managed marine areas, and run community sensitization activities. S/he will be responsible for providing sound technical advice on fisheries and marine resource management, overseeing all aspects of the project cycle and building staff capacity.

Reporting Lines: 2-4 Field Officers
Budget responsibility: Project budget
Location: Praia do Tofo and/or Morrungulo (with travel)
At least 5 years of relevant experience in marine conservation, fisheries management,
Strong Able to work effectively across many different cultures and as part of a team.
A strong negotiator, able to manage many different stakeholders
Passionate self-starter able to take the initiative in a constantly changing environment.
Willing to travel regularly for work within the Inhambane Province
Proficient in English
Passion for conservation!
Fluency in Portuguese
Knowledge of one or more languages of Inhambane (Quitonga, Xitswa)
Experience in marine resource management or fisheries management
Experience in community-based participatory approaches
Knowledge of fisheries management, village savings and loan associations, micro-credit, livelihood development or small business start-up
Valid driver’s license
With support from the Conservation Programme Manager, coordinate the day-to-day running of community-led marine conservation projects across 3-5 project locations;
Assist Support the development of monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) tools, coordinate monitoring activities, and write monthly project reports on achievements and progress against targets.
Technical Advice and Support
Provide advice and guidance on community-led approaches and the establishment of community managed marine areas (fisheries conservation zones);
Coordinate with the Research Department, to support the collection of field-based data to inform project implementation and strategy development;
With support from the Education Department and the Conservation Programme Staff Management and Capacity Building:
Manage and coordinate the work of the Conservation Field Officers to ensure effective mobilisation of local fishing communities and sound project implementation;
Mentor and contribute to the capacity building of Conservation Field Officers.
Project Finance Management:
Oversee project budgets, keeping a track of expenditure and advising the Programme Manager of any discrepancies;
Work closely with the Programme Manager to develop budget forecasts for current and future projects.
When required, support the development of new grant proposals;
Support MMF day to day activities, such as assisting at conservation talkand public events;
Other activities as required.

The project requires you to commit for a minimum of 6 months and a trial period will apply. Candidates must also be able to provide their own laptop computers to work on.
